The school staff members are all Christians dedicated to working with young children. Our elementary teachers are state-certified and/or CSI-certified. All take part in continuing education in the areas of early childhood development, developmentally appropriate practice, as well as training in first aid and CPR.
Amy Baum – Head of School
Amy has 10 over years of experience working with children in the schools and early intervention. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona. She spent her early years as a teacher in elementary schools with ages kindergarten to sixth grade. She spent a portion of that time teaching at an international school for missionary children in Tanzania, East Africa. She has expertise in early childhood development and working with children birth to five. She is a native Tucsonan who is married to Austin and has three young children.

Debbie Bencomo – Lead Teacher, Three Year Olds
Debbie has been teaching for eight years. She was born in Douglas, Arizona and moved to Tucson, Arizona to attend college. She attended Pima Community College and graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Studies. She has her CDA (Child Development Associate) certification and is bilingual. She has a passion for teaching young children and is dedicated to her profession. She has experience as a ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) therapist focused on children with autism. Debbie is married and has a son who attends our school. She enjoys hiking and spending quality time with her family.
Mary Bitar – Assistant Teacher, Kindergarten
Mary Bitar started with us as a beloved volunteer in our Preschool. She holds a teaching diploma from the Lebanese American University, earned her Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration from the American University of Beirut and has a degree in Experimental Science. Mary’s experience includes being a librarian, teacher and school principal. She is very active in the Middle Eastern Fellowship at Northminster, of which her husband is the Pastor. She is the assistant teacher in the Butterfly class of four and five-year old children.
Danielle Brown – Lead Teacher, Four Year Olds
Danielle has experience teaching two, three, and four-year olds at her previous church in Tempe. Danielle has six years experience working in a behavioral health and elementary school setting. This is Danielle’s third year at Northminster Christian School. Danielle is graduating from Grand Canyon University with a degree in Special & Elementary Education with a Bible minor. Danielle brings her behavioral experience with a specialty in applied behavioral analysis to our school. She has served as an ABA Therapist and has a passion for children’s rights. She is married and has two children, who both attend our school.

Myrna Fileccia – Lead Teacher, Two Year Olds
Myrna Fileccia has worked with young children in diverse settings since 1989 in New York, Delaware, Connecticut, Nevada and Arizona. She was lead teacher for a two-year-old class in a Christian school before relocating to Tucson in 2015. Myrna holds a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and an MA in Curriculum and Teaching from Columbia University in New York City. Originally from the Philippines, she has a deep passion for working with young children and their families.
Rebecca Garcia – Lead Teacher, Kindergarten
Becca attended the University of Arizona and earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in History. She has taught history at Pima College and completed coursework for the AZ teaching certification. Becca also teaches children’s dance classes and has almost two decades of experience with preschoolers in that setting. She is married and has three children, all of whom have attended Northminster Christian School.
Brenda Larsen – Reading Specialist
Brenda has been teaching for 35 years, 18 of which she taught in Christian schools in California. She has a degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University. She also has a Master’s Degree in Reading and Literacy from Grand Canyon University. She holds endorsements in English as a Second Language and Reading. She is our Reading Specialist this year, working with children ages four through third grade.
Eva McClaughry – Assistant Teacher, Elementary
Eva McClaughry earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, her Master of Arts in Teaching from Grand Canyon University, and holds certificates in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. Eva taught at Lamb’s Gate Preschool, and Saints Peter and Paul for over ten years where she taught Kindergarten, 2nd grade and 3rd grade. She has worked on our staff for over four years. She assists in our elementary class.
Michele Ross – Assistant Teacher, Elementary
Michele is one of the assistants in our elementary class. Michele received her degree from Palomar College in San Marcos, California, and has taken coursework in Early Childhood Education along with seminars here in Tucson. Michele has worked here for over 17 years and helped establish the school as a board member during the development stage. She has worked in the three, four and five-year old classrooms.
Gloria Wickey – First and Second Grade Teacher
Gloria has 30 years of teaching experience and working with children and has served in Christian schools in Iowa and here in Tucson. She received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. She has a passion for seeing Elementary students grow academically and spiritually.
