The school staff members are all Christians dedicated to working with young children. Our elementary teachers are state-certified and/or CSI-certified. All take part in continuing education in the areas of early childhood development, developmentally appropriate practice, as well as training in first aid and CPR.
Amy Baum – Head of School
Amy has always had a love and passion for working with children. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona. She spent her early years as a teacher in elementary schools with ages kindergarten to sixth grade. She spent a portion of that time teaching at an international school for missionary children in Tanzania, East Africa. She has also worked with the Arizona Early Intervention Program and children and families in the Department of Child Safety. She has expertise in early childhood development and working with children birth to five. She is a native Tucsonan who is married to Austin and has three young children. For fun she loves to read, go for a run and spend time with her family.
Danielle Brown – Administrative Assistant and Behavioral Specialist
Danielle has experience teaching all ages of preschool. Danielle has six years experience working in a behavioral health and elementary school setting. Danielle is pursuing a degree from Grand Canyon University in Special & Elementary Education with a Bible minor. Danielle brings her behavioral experience with a specialty in applied behavioral analysis to our school. She has served as an ABA Therapist and has a passion for children’s rights. She is married and has two children.
Maricela Angulo – Lead Teacher, Three Year Olds
Maricela is a native Spanish speaker and was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. She has been working with preschool-aged children for 7 years and has experience working with children with special needs and behavioral problems. She is currently in school pursuing a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Nutrition. She is passionate about helping children grow and become confident individuals. Maricela has a 9 year old daughter. Her favorite bible verse is Joshua 1:9.
Debbie Bencomo – Assistant Teacher, Two Year Olds
Debbie has been teaching for nine years. She was born in Douglas, Arizona and moved to Tucson to attend college. She attended Pima Community College and graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Studies. She has her CDA (Child Development Associate) certification and is bilingual. She has a passion for teaching young children and is dedicated to her profession. She has experience as an ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) therapist focused on children with autism. She enjoys hiking and spending quality time with her family.
Fernanda Delgado – Assistant Teacher, Kindergarten
Fernanda has vast experience in the education field. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Education with a thesis in discipline from The Teacher Training Institute of Sonora, in Hermosillo, MX. She has spent time teaching children ages preschool through middle school. She enjoys seeing children grow over the year and master new concepts.
Elizabeth Fierro – Assistant Teacher, Three Year Olds
Elizabeth just completed her second year working at Northminster. She discovered her love for working with children recently and truly enjoys coming up with lesson plans that engage the students. She works part time for our school and part time for Northminster Presbyterian Church as the Children’s Ministry Assistant. She is currently pursuing further education in early childhood education. She is also bilingual and teaches the children Spanish in our classrooms.
Myrna Fileccia – Lead Teacher, Two Year Olds
Myrna Fileccia has worked with young children in diverse settings since 1989 in New York, Delaware, Connecticut, Nevada and Arizona. She was lead teacher for a two-year-old class in a Christian school before relocating to Tucson in 2015. Myrna holds a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and an MA in Curriculum and Teaching from Columbia University in New York City. Originally from the Philippines, she has a deep passion for working with young children and their families.
Elisa Gomez – Assistant Teacher, Four Year Olds
Elisa has been working with children for ten years, and has a passion for teaching children. Her experience includes working in formal childcare settings, providing respite care for children with autism, as well as children’s ministry. Currently she is attending Grand Canyon University online, pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Elisa is a Tucson native, bilingual and enjoys spending time outdoors, reading, and serving in the worship ministry at her local church.
Brenda Larsen – Reading Specialist
Brenda has been teaching for 35 years, 18 of which she taught in Christian schools in California. She has a degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University. She also has a Master’s Degree in Reading and Literacy from Grand Canyon University. She holds endorsements in English as a Second Language and Reading. She is our Reading Specialist this year, working with children age four through kindergarten.
Stephanie Maseradjian – Lead Teacher, Four Year Olds
Originally from California, Stephanie earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from California State University, Northridge. She continued her education at the University of California, Los Angeles in a postgraduate program in Paralegal Studies. Working as a paralegal for a couple years, Stephanie began to realize that her passion was working with children. Stephanie moved to Tucson three years ago with her wonderful husband David and adorable dog Foxxy. Upon her move, she enrolled in Pima Community College, where she earned an Associate of Applied Science Degree and Certificate in Early Childhood Education. Her experience in the classroom began as a Montessori teacher, where she learned how to inspire children to be independent and self-motivating. She loves working with children and is committed to creating a fun and safe learning environment for the children through God’s love.
Sarah Nordstrom – Lead Teacher, Kindergarten
Sarah Nordstrom is from Tucson and has worked in early childhood education for many years. She worked with the Head Start program and has experience working with children of all ages in preschool. She brings her experience with the Reggio Emilia approach, which is a program based on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community through exploration and discovery through a self-guided curriculum. Sarah attended the University of Arizona, has a degree in Elementary Education from Prescott College and a CDA (Child Development Associate) certification. She is married with two children.
