The school staff members are all Christians dedicated to working with young children. Our elementary teachers are state-certified and/or CSI-certified. All participate in continuing education in the areas of early childhood development, developmentally appropriate practice, as well as training in first aid and CPR.
Amy Baum – Head of School
Amy has 10 over years of experience working with children in the school and social working systems. She has a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona. She spent her early years as a teacher in elementary schools with ages kindergarten to sixth grade. She spent a portion of that time teaching at an international school for missionary children in Tanzania, East Africa. She has expertise in early childhood development and working with children birth to five who have developmental delays. She is a native Tucsonan who is married to Austin and has two young boys.
David Berry – Assistant Director
Dave Berry taught for ten years in public schools. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics in Education from the University of Arizona and a Master’s Degree in Administration in Education from the University of Phoenix. He is very excited to be joining the NCS staff as the Assistant Director.
Mary Bitar – Assistant Teacher, Four and Five Year Olds
Mary Bitar started with us as a beloved volunteer in our Preschool. She holds a teaching diploma from the Lebanese American University, earned her Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration from the American University of Beirut and has a degree in Experimental Science. Mary’s experience includes being a librarian, teacher and school principal. She is very active in the Middle Eastern Fellowship at Northminster, of which her husband is the Pastor. She is the assistant teacher in the Butterfly class of four and five year old children.
Rachel Brinker – Lead Teacher, Kindergarten
Rachel is our Kindergarten teacher who came to us from Lambs Gate. She was instrumental in starting our Kindergarten program and has taught here for the past fifteen years. Rachel earned her Elementary Education degree at the U of A and has a minor in Spanish, which she incorporates into the Kindergarten program. Rachel is a state certified teacher who regularly takes classes to enhance her teaching and keep up with and exceed state requirements. She is married to her husband, Fred. They have two children and five grandchildren.
Danielle Brown – Lead Teacher, Three and Four Year Olds
Danielle has experience teaching two, three, and four year olds at her previous church in Tempe. Danielle has six years experience working in a behavioral health and elementary school setting. This is Danielle’s first year here at Northminster Christian School. Danielle is graduating from Grand Canyon University with a degree in Special & Elementary Education with a Bible minor. Danielle brings her behavioral experience with a specialty in applied behavioral analysis to our school. She has served as an ABA Therapist and has a passion for children’s rights. She is married and has two children, who both attend our school.
Rebecca Garcia – Lead Teacher, Two Year Olds
Becca attended the University of Arizona and earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in History. She has taught history at Pima College and completed coursework for the AZ teaching certification. Becca also teaches children’s dance classes and has almost two decades of experience with preschoolers in that setting. She is married and has three children, all of whom have attended Northminster Christian School.
Becky Gonzalez – Lead Teacher, Three and Four Year Olds
Becky is the lead teacher in the Ladybug class. She has had experience teaching two, three, and four year olds here at Northminster Christian School. Becky has 15 years experience working in the academic libraries at both the University of Texas and at the U of A. Becky joined our teaching staff back in 2009. Becky graduated from the University of Texas in El Paso with a degree in Psychology and Biology. Becky brings her experience with literacy to our school. She is married and has two children, who have both attended our school.
Brenda Larsen – Reading Specialist
Brenda has been teaching for 35 years, 18 of which she taught in Christian schools in California. She has a degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University. She also has a Master’s Degree in Reading and Literacy from Grand Canyon University. She holds endorsements in English as a Second Language and Reading. She is our Reading Specialist this year, working with children ages four through third grade.
Eva McClaughry – Assistant Teacher, Kindergarten
Eva McClaughry earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, her Master of Arts in Teaching from Grand Canyon University, and holds certificates in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. Eva taught at Lamb’s Gate Preschool, and Saints Peter and Paul for over ten years where she taught Kindergarten, 2nd grade and 3rd grade. She has worked on our staff for over four years. She assists in our Kindergarten.
Nichole Mitchell – Lead Teacher, Second/Third Grades
Nichole has her B.S. degree in Biblical Studies from Evangel University. She has experience caring for children from infants through elementary in both child care and ministry settings. She also has experience as a preschool teacher in multiple age groups. Nichole spent some time in ministry as a worship and youth pastor and has a heart for sharing the gospel and the love of Jesus through helping those in need. Nichole has also served as an assistant house parent for GAP ministries serving foster children in Tucson. She plans to further her education and pursue a master’s degree in education.
Michele Ross – Assistant Teacher, Kindergarten
Michele is one of the assistants in our Kindergarten class. Michele received her degree from Palomar College in San Marcos, California, and has taken coursework in Early Childhood Education along with seminars here in Tucson. Michele has worked here for over 16 years and helped establish the school as a board member during the development stage. She has worked in the three, four and five year old classrooms.
Pat Zanta – Elementary Lead Teacher
Pat has 30 years of teaching experience and has served in Christian schools in Georgia, Texas and Tucson. She graduated from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska, and moved to Tucson to complete her graduate work in Library Science at the University of Arizona. In addition to having teaching experience in junior kindergarten through fifth grade, Pat has also served as a school librarian. Pat is the lead teacher for our elementary classroom.
