Old Pueblo Brass Band Concert
Sunday, April 24, 3:00pm, Sanctuary
The Old Pueblo Brass Band, under the leadership of Barbara L. Chinworth, conductor and music director since 2001, ends its 20th season in its favorite spot, Northminster Presbyterian Church!
The program features music from the Highlands of Scotland, i.e., Philip Sparke's Hymn of the Highlands, two movements from the suite, Ardross Castle and Dundonnell, both being places in the Highlands. A featured soloist, Amy Burmeister, will play Lairg Muir, depicting a village not too far from Inverness. Sparke, a prolific composer for brass band, wrote seven pieces for his description of the Highlands. The band will also play Strathcarron from this same collection. It is a vigorous version of a Celtic tune. To round out the Freedom theme for the season, the band will start with Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man as well as Sousa's Hail to the Spirit of Liberty. A freewill offering will be collected.
